What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a form of gentle massage that encourages the movement of Lymph fluid back into the Lymphatic system. Lymph fluid helps remove waste and toxins from connective and soft tissues and by engaging this system to work at an optimal level, can help cleanse the body, reduce pain and boost the immune system.
Lymphatic drainage massages can benefit people with lymphedema, fibromyalgia, post-surgery and other conditions that causing swelling and bloating. It can also be useful for sinus congestion, headache, stress, digestive conditions.
The treatment can be very relaxing and have a positive impact on general wellbeing!
What does Lymphatic Drainage Do?
The gentle flowing and pumping massage techniques help to release fluid in the body so that it drains away to the lymph nodes around the body and is dispersed. Manual Lymphatic Drainage can be performed on both upper and lower body but is mainly performed on legs, ankles, stomach, and flanks.
What happens during a Lymphatic Drainage Massage?
Your massage therapist will follow a particular sequence, using a series of massage techniques, including stretching, compressing, gliding, and cupping motions.
Light, rhythmic movements stimulate the lymphatic system without pressing hard on the vessel network. They help the lymph fluid move easily through the nodes and tissue.
